Reimagining Early Education:

Centering Black Educator Practices as Sacred and Transformative Work

This initiative centers Black educator practices as sacred, transformative work that redefines early learning through cultural affirmation, equity, and liberation. Grounded in ecological systems theory and community cultural wealth, we partner with local nonprofits to build inclusive preschool environments that celebrate identity and empower every child.

more About the Initiative

Purpose

At a time when educators face growing challenges around inclusivity, equity, and restrictive educational policies, this initiative calls for a radical rethinking of preschool learning environments.Through a utopian lens, we imagine early learning spaces that affirm identity, foster joy, and celebrate the cultural wealth of Black children, families, and communities. Our goal is to inspire sustainable change within schools and teacher preparation programs so that culturally affirming practices become the norm and not the exception.

Impact

This work seeks to provide accessible and sustainable pathways for early education practitioners navigating the realities of funding and policy challenges. It offers practical frameworks and guiding principles for educators who believe that teaching is not only a profession, but a beautiful, sacred, and transformative act. Through continued collaboration with local nonprofits and community partners, we aim to build a network of shared purpose dedicated to advancing equity, cultural affirmation, and educational liberation for all children.

My name is Nicole and I am Artist, Educator, and Doctoral Candidate. I’m so glad you're here.
I share with you my hope for an equitable future for Black children.

The world is overwhelming: racism, systemic inequities, and crimes against humanity. I believe the change we seek lies in the littlest faces we were made to love and affirm. This project is filled with hope for change in how we approach Black children and their families. Early education comes with the responsibility to show children love through inclusive classroom spaces that reflect the best and brightest parts of their world.
